Sioux City-----Tyler Goodro hit a two-out two-run walk-off home run in the tenth inning as the Explorers defeated St. Paul 6-4 here Sunday night.
The home run by Goodro came on the first pitch from losing hurler Robert Manuel and it was Goodro's fifth of the season. The Explorers came back three times in the contest to beat St. Paul for the first time in the four-game series. After St. Paul had taken a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning, Sioux City tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single by Derek Schermerhorn and a bases loaded walk to T.J. Bohn. The Saints took the lead at 3-2 in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Richard Mercado. In the bottom of the ninth Bohn led off with a walk and then with one out, Ryan Priddy single. Then with two outs, Dustin Jones doubled to drive in Bohn to tie the game at 3-3. It was Jones' third hit of the game. St. Paul then scored in the top of tenth inning to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the tenth inning with one out, Kent Sakamoto singled extending his hitting streak to 15-games. Brett Flowers followed with a single with Sakamoto taking third base. Bohn then lifted a fly ball to centerfield to score Sakamoto to tie the game at 4-4. With Flowers on first, Goodro drove the first pitch out of the park in left field to give the Explorers their first extra inning win at home.
After an off day Monday, the Explorers will start a six-game road trip with single games Tuesday-Thursday at Winnipeg and then go to St. Paul for a three-game weekend series. The Explorers will return to Lewis and Clark Park on Monday, July 25th to face Winnipeg.
