Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

FT. WORTH, Tex. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats made it four in a row on the roadtrip, winning the opening contest in the Battle of the Cats, stopping the Ft. Worth Cats 4-0 on Monday night in Texas.

Alain Quijano twirled seven masterful innings to post his third victory with the RailCats. Quijano surrendered a leadoff single to John Allen in the bottom of the second before posting 15 consecutive outs leading into the seventh. Ryan Patterson led off with a single before being erased on a double play as Quijano faced the minimum over his final six frames. Quijano struck out five and allowed just two hits in the victory. The RailCats turned three double plays in the victory.

The RailCats provided Quijano all the run support he would need early, opening a 4-0 lead with two runs in the second and third inning. With one away in the second Toddric Johnson reached on an infield single. Kyle Haines followed with a double. Both runners scored on a two-run single from Mike Rohde. The next inning, the RailCats took advantage of a two-out error to score a couple runs. Cristian Guerrero doubled home Brad Boyer, who reached on an error. Johnson responded with a double as well, handing the RailCats another victory.

A strange night in Texas featured a delay for sprinklers going off early in the contest and was stopped for 20 minutes when a light tower in left-center went out in the top of the seventh.

The shutout was the second of the roadtrip as Scott Shaw blanked Shreveport-Bossier with a complete game on Saturday and was named as the American Association Pitcher of the Week for his performance today. Johnson logged three hits in the win, which put the RailCats at 10 games over .500 for the second time this year. Chris Little and Travis Minix each threw an inning to complete the shutout.

The series with Ft. Worth continues tomorrow night with another 7:05 p.m. date with the Cats. LHP Carlos Rivas (3-0, 1.65) takes the hill for the RailCats opposite RHP Phillip Bartleski (2-0, 3.04).

The Gary SouthShore RailCats return home on Friday, and will give fans two chances to catch the best fireworks show in Northwest Indiana this weekend with the addition of a very special Christmas-themed Fireworks Spectacular on Dollar Monday, July 25, exactly five months before the real thing.
