THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost 5-4 in a walk-off at Rome on Tuesday night. The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third on a double and an error, but the Power answered with three in the top of the fourth. Justin Maffei singled in Erich Weiss, Danny Collins scored on a wild pitch and Maffei then crossed on a ground out. Rome responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 edge. West Virginia tied the game with two outs in the top of the ninth on a run-scoring double by Harold Ramirez. With one out in the home half of the ninth, Conner Lien singled over a drawn in infield to score Victor Caratini from third to pin a loss on Brett McKinney.

SEVENTEEN: Reese McGuire's hitting streak has reach seventeen games after an eighth inning bunt single on Tuesday. The 19-year-old's streak is the longest active run in the South Atlantic League. It is also the second longest streak by a Power player since the affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates began in 2009. Starling Marte hit safely in 22 straight games from July 9 to August 9, 2009.

WHEN IN ROME: West Virginia and Rome close their first series of the season this afternoon at State Mutual Stadium. The Power and Braves have split the 30 games between the clubs since 2005 with 15 wins each. West Virginia has gone 7-11 in Rome since 2005.

MYLES BACK: Candon Myles was activated from the Power Disabled List earlier today. Myles was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 20. The outfielder has played in 32 games for West Virginia this season and is batting .208 with no home runs and six runs batted in.

WALK-OFF WOES: West Virginia's loss on Tuesday was the fourth time this season the club has lost in the last half inning of a game. The Power also lost on Opening Day in walk-off fashion, though the game was actually completed on Friday, April 4, rather than April 3. The Power also lost in walk-off fashion on April 29 in game one of a doubleheader at Kannapolis and on May 13 Greenville. West Virginia does not have a walk-off win this year.

EDGED BY ONE: The Power lost by one for the 14th time this season, by far the most in the South Atlantic League. West Virginia is 7-14 in one-run games this season. No other club in the league has played more than 16 one-run games this season.

FOUR! Justin Maffei became the third player to drive in four runs during a game this season. Elvis Escobar has accomplished the feat twice, most recently with a grand slam on Sunday against Lakewood. Erich Weiss was the first player to drive in four during a game this season with his inside-the-park grand slam against Lexington on April 13.

BORDEN DEALING: Buddy Borden won his second straight start after having gone winless in each of his first 14 professional appearances dating back to 2013 with Jamestown. The right-hander has a staff-best 2.53 earned run average, placing him just outside the top ten in the South Atlantic League. Borden also leads West Virginia with 45 strikeouts. After ten starts last season, Tyler Glasnow led the Power with 64 strikeouts.

PROMO UPDATE- JUNE 3: West Virginia hosts Kannapolis at 7:05 pm on Tuesday, June 3. It is the first of two "Bark in the Park" games at Appalachian Power Park this season. Dogs are admitted free without a ticket.

Owens was the 39th former Power player to reach the Majors and the second this year (Casey Sadler)... Adam Landecker was transferred to the Jamestown roster to clear a roster spot for Candon Myles.
