HICKORY, Md. (May 28, 2014) - The Kannapolis Intimidators offense faded as the Hickory Crawdads claimed an 8-1 victory and series win on Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Hunter Jones led off the game with a home run (1), but the Intimidators offense mustered just five more hits as Hickory's Cole Wiper and the Crawdads bullpen blanked Kannapolis over the final eight innings.

Wiper (3-6) struck out seven over 5.0 frames to secure his third win in five starts against Kannapolis. Josh McElwee tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh, and Felix Carvallo spun the final two innings for the Crawdads.

Thaddius Lowry (0-3) took the loss for Kannapolis, lasting just 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Hickory bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the first on a Ronald Guzman two-out single to centerfield, scoring Evan Van Hoosier and Nick Vickerson for a 2-1 lead. The Crawdads surged ahead with a 4-run second inning, highlighted by Ryan Cordell's bases-clearing double for a 6-1 lead that ended Lowry's night.

Nomar Mazara blasted a 2-run home run (5) off Alex Powers in the sixth for an 8-1 lead.

Andrew Mitchell workes 3.1 solid relief innings, keeping Hickory hitless during his time on the mound. He struck out four and walked four.

The Intimidators return to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Thursday, May 29, to open a 4-game series against the first place Hagerstown Suns.
