THE LEADOFF: West Virginia won its fourth straight game over Lexington with a 5-1 final on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. The Power took an early lead thanks to an RBI double from Francisco Diaz, who extended his hit streak to 12 games. After the Legends tied the game in the sixth inning, the Power offense tallied four runs in the eighth inning. Kevin Kramer hit a go-ahead single and the Power got a bases-loaded walk from Jerrick Suiter, an RBI sac fly from Elvis Escobar, and an RBI base-knock by Chase Simpson. Austin Coley was stellar for the Power after he allowed one run on three hits over seven-innings. Coley received a no-decision and Jared Lakind earned the win.
PLAYOFF BOUND: With the victory on Saturday, West Virginia clinched its fourth postseason berth in franchise history and its second in the history of the affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates. West Virginia last made it to the postseason in the 2013 campaign. During the Power-Brewers affiliation, West Virginia made it to the playoffs in 2007 and in 2008.
RECORD WATCH: West Virginia has won 46 games at home this season, the most in franchise history. With nine games left, the Power have 81 wins overall, putting them one shy of matching the most in any one season. The 2007 set a franchise record with 82 wins and that total was matched in 2013.
ONESIES: In each of the last five games, every Power starter has worked into the sixth inning or beyond. During this stretch, starters are 3-0 with a 1.39 ERA (5 ER/32.1 IP). All five starters allowed just one run in their last outing.
TARPLEY TONIGHT: West Virginia southpaw Stephen Tarpley will take the hill for the Power in game three of the series against the Legends. Tarpley put up his tenth quality start in his last outing against the Augusta GreenJackets. Since joining West Virginia in late-May, Tarpley has recorded 11 wins including one against Lexington on July 18 where he allowed one run over six innings. In six of his last eight starts, Tarpley tossed a quality outing.
TRUE LEGENDS: The Power own a 14-3 record against the Legends this season with three games left to go against the Kansas City Royals affiliate. West Virginia owns a 112-98 all-time record against the Legends since 2005, including a 50-51 mark against Lexington at Appalachian Power Park.
DON'T EVEN BOTH KNOCKING: After being held hitless in 11 at bats on the road, Power second baseman Kevin Kramer has hit safely in both games played at Appalachian Power Park. Kramer went 3-for-6 with two runs and a couple RBIs and fell a triple shy of the cycle in Saturday's win and added the go-ahead single as part of a two-hit day on Sunday.
