Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 31, 2015) - Kannapolis Intimidators reliever David Trexler has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 24-30, marking the fourth time an Intimidators pitcher has earned the award this season. Trexler spun 5.0 scoreless relief innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing three base runners over two appearances.
Trexler, 24, struck out a career-high nine batters over a career-long 4.0 near-perfect innings on Saturday against the Hagerstown Suns. He retired 12 of 13 batters faced, allowing a ninth inning single, after he struck out eight consecutive batters from the seventh inning into the ninth. He finished the game with a strikeout to earn his seventh save in eight save opportunities in 2015. Trexler also worked one scoreless, hitless relief inning on August 25 against Delmarva.
Trexler is the first relief pitcher to earn SAL Pitcher of the Week honors this season. He joins two-time SAL Pitcher of the Week Jordan Guerrero (April 9-19 and May 11-17) and Yency Almonte (June 29-July 5) as the only Intimidators to receive a weekly plaudit this season. The White Sox selected Trexler in the 17th round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Florida. This season, he is 0-2 with a 4.71 ERA (34 ER/65 IP) and 73 strikeouts in 34 relief appearances this season.
