Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Greenville Drive 6-3 Monday at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd 1,309.
Rome dented the scoreboard in the first inning when Braxton Davidson drew a bases loaded walk for the 1-0 lead. The Braves added two more runs in the fourth on Luke Dykstra's sacrifice fly RBI and Leudys Baez's run scoring single. In the bottom of the sixth Rome made it a 4-0 game on a Dykstra RBI double. Greenville scored three times in the seventh. Rafael Devers added a sacrifice fly RBI and Nick Longhi lined a two run double to make it a 4-3 game. The Braves got much needed insurance runs in seventh and eighth to get the 6-3 victory.
Rome starter Trevor Belicek was strong going 4.2 innings but reliever Taylor Cockrell (1-0) gets the win with two shutout innings. Jake Drehoff (1-1) is hit with the loss and Dustin Emmons earns his fifth save.
