Lexington Legends News Release

Chase Vallot homered and drove in four runs, and Scott Blewett allowed five hits and one run over seven innings as the Lexington Legends rolled to an 8-1 victory over the West Virginia Power Monday night in Charleston. Luis Villegas also homered for the Legends.

Lexington shortstop Luis Valenzuela was removed from the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when the team learned he had been traded to Atlanta as part of a deal that sent major league veteran Jonny Gomes to the Kansas City Royals.

The Legends scored two runs in the first inning. Valenzuela, the leadoff hitter, reached on an error by first baseman Connor Joe and moved to second on a single by Austin Bailey. After Wander Franco grounded into a force play at second, Valenzuela scored on a passed ball. Brandon Downes walked, and Anderson Miller was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Vallot's fly ball to left field was misplayed by Jerrick Suiter for an error, and Franco scored from third. Vallot was credited with a sacrifice fly.

The score remained 2-0 until the top of the seventh. Villegas led off the inning with his fourth home run of the year. DonAndre Clark walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Valenzuela and scored on a two-out single by Franco.

After West Virginia scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh, the Legends took a 6-1 lead with two runs in the eighth when Miller singled and Vallot hit his 12th home run of the year, and fourth in his last six games.

The Legends scored two more runs in the ninth. Singles by Franco, Downes and Miller loaded the bases. Vallot's single scored Franco, and a sacrifice fly by Samir Duenez brought Downes home with the final run.

Blewett (3-5) got the win. He struck out four batters and walked one. Jake Newberry worked the final two innings. He gave up one hit and recorded four strikeouts.

West Virginia starter Stephen Tarpley (11-4) was the losing pitcher.

The Power have won two out of three in the five-game series, which continues Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
