August 31, 2015 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves took an early lead and never looked back on Monday night in a 6-3 victory over the Greenville Drive. The Drive have now lost two straight games to the Braves and fall a game behind the Asheville Tourists in the overall Southern Division standings, pending the result of the second game of Asheville's Monday doubleheader.
Two Braves (25-38, 56-77) singles and a Drive (30-33, 68-65) error loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the first, and Jake Drehoff (3-2) issued a walk to Braxton Davidson to put Rome ahead.
Rome struck for two more runs against Drehoff in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Luke Dykstra and an RBI single from Leudys Baez.
The Drive threatened to cut into the Rome lead in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but Taylor Cockrell (1-0) entered the game in relief of Trevor Belicek and got Danny Mars to ground into a force out to escape the jam.
Dykstra greeted new Drive pitcher Jeffry Fernandez with an RBI double in the sixth that plated Davidson to put Rome ahead 4-0.
In the seventh, the Drive took advantage of a Rome error and cut the Braves lead to 4-3. Rafael Devers lifted a sacrifice fly to put Greenville on the board, and later in the inning, Nick Longhi hit a two-run double to left.
Rome would answer right back with single runs in the seventh and eighth to put the game away. Jordan Edgerton singled home a run in the eighth, and Dykstra's double to left tacked on the final run.
Longhi collected two hits and two RBI for Greenville, while Devers chipped in with two hits. Stephen Gaylor led the way for Rome with a three-hit night. Dykstra drove in three runs with two hits, and Matt Tellor also picked up a pair of hits.
The series continues with a 7:00 PM first pitch in Rome on Tuesday night. LH Dedgar Jimenez (8-9, 4.41) starts on the bump for the Drive, and the Braves will counter with RH Zach Quintana (5-5, 3.04).
