Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers took an early lead tonight and never looked back, giving the team a 5-2 win over the Ontario Reign in their first of a three-game series.
Wranglers forward Judd Blackwater tallied the lone goal of the first period at the 7:05 mark. With an assist from defenseman Adam Miller, the Wranglers went up 1-0 over Ontario. The team went on to add two goals to their lead in the second frame, with forward Eric Lampe's 18th goal of the season giving the team a 2-0 lead. Lampe was assisted by Blackwater and defenseman Mike Madill. Seven minutes later, Wranglers center Ash Goldie collected a third goal with help from Miller and Blackwater, and the second ended 3-0 in favor of Las Vegas.
Ontario got on the board early in the third with their first goal of the game coming from right wing Derek Couture, who was assisted by forward Geoff Irwin. The score was held at 3-1 until Wranglers forward Josh Lunden put another Las Vegas goal on the board with Madill and forward Ryan Weston on the assists. Ontario responded three minutes later with a goal from center C.J. Stretch to make the score 4-2. Stretch was assisted by Irwin and defenseman Steven Tarasuk.
Still facing a two-goal deficit, Ontario pulled goaltender Chris Carozzi late in the third for a man advantage. Wranglers forward Chris Francis broke out and scored an empty-net goal with less than two minutes left in the game, and with an assist by forward Robbie Smith, Las Vegas collected the 5-2 win.
Las Vegas faces Ontario again tomorrow night at Orleans Arena with a puck drop at 7:05 p.m. The team will finish the three-game series in California on Saturday night. Tonight's full box score can be found here .
