Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, scored three third period goals to complete a 6-5 comeback victory over the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday night at the Sears Centre Arena.

Kalamazoo struck first, as 2:52 into the first period, Wings D Mike Matczak fired a shot from the point that deflected off of the visor of LW Steven Anthony and over the outstretched arms of Chicago G Allen York. Just under 3 minutes later, Express LW Chad Painchaud scored his second goal in as many games on a one-timer from D Darcy Campbell on the power play. The assist was Campbell's 100th professional point. The Wings waited just 50 seconds to put in their second goal when the Express forced a pass through the slot and Wings F Darren Archibald picked it off and snapped one over the shoulder of York. Kalamazoo extended their lead to 3-1 when D Sam Ftorek took a pass from Matczak and quickly slapped it into the net at 10:38. The Express answered back on another power play when C Pierre-Luc Faubert put in his seventh goal of the season, picking up his own rebound at 15:14. Chicago held a 12-8 shot advantage in the first period.

The lone goal of the second period came from a penalty shot awarded to Kalamazoo after an Express player was ruled to intentionally knock the net off the moorings during a Kalamazoo scoring chance. D Taylor Ellington was awarded the penalty shot chance, and slid a backhander through York to put Kalamazoo up 4-2 with 13:54 left in the frame.

Kalamazoo looked to put the nail in the Express coffin when D Eric Kattelus scored to put the Wings up 5-2 just 2:53 into the final frame. That's when the offensive floodgates opened for Chicago. D Scott Wietecha scored his first professional goal on a slapshot from the neutral zone that bounced off G Maxime Clermont 1:05 later, bringing the Express back to within two. F Mike Embach made it 5-4 at 7:47 of the third period, setting the stage for Painchaud's second goal and third point of the game. Painchaud received a pass, deked past new G Riley Gill, and slipped the puck into the net with 9:01 left in the period.

The two teams were scoreless through overtime, leading the game into a shootout. After Express F Bobby Robins and Wings C Justin Taylor traded second round goals, F Kyle Ostrow potted the game winner in the fifth and final round to secure a 6-5 shootout victory for Chicago.
