
Wranglers Fall to Aces 4-1 In Season Opener

Anchorage, AK - The Las Vegas Wranglers (0-1-0, 0 points) were defeated by the Alaska Aces (1-0-0, 2 points) 4-1 at Sullivan Arena on Friday night. Forward Colin Hemmingway scored twice and dished out an assist as the Aces scored four unanswered goals for the victory. Rookie goalie J.P. Lamoreux stopped 27 of 28 Las Vegas shots. Rookie Mick Lawrence scored the Wranglers only goal on the night. Las Vegas was 0-7 on the power play. The Wranglers and Aces meet again on Saturday at 8:15 pm (PST) at Sullivan Arena.
The two rivals traded goals in the first period starting with Las Vegas taking a 1-0 lead at 16:18. Left wing Mick Lawrence snapped a shot over the glove of Alaska goalie J.P. Lamoureux for his first pro goal. Center Chris Ferraro set up the goal. Alaska countered to tie the game 1-1 just before the period expired. Colin Hemingway snapped a shot from the right-wing circle, beating Las Vegas goalie John DeCaro on the blocker side at 19:19.
The Aces grabbed the lead in the second period with a pair of goals. The Aces worked the puck in deep with 6:55 remaining in the middle frame. Aces forward Cam Keith worked the puck from behind the Las Vegas net, setting up Alexandre Imbeault's first goal of the season. Las Vegas goalie John DeCaro left the game with an injury minutes later. He finished the night stopping 14 of 16 in 34:13 of work. Emergency back up goaltender Bryan Bridges was thrown into action. The Aces welcomed him with a shot from the point that was deflected by traffic past Bridges for the 3-1 Aces lead. Defenseman Mike Gauthier was given credit for the goal at 16:28 of the second period.
Alaska sealed the win in the third period as Colin Hemmingway scored his second of the night at 2:03 for the 4-1 final.
The Wranglers will remain in Alaska to face the Aces at 8:15 pm (PST) on Saturday night at Sullivan Arena. Las Vegas will open at home on Thursday, October 23rd at 7:30 pm at the Orleans Arena against the Ontario Reign.
