Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have signed forward Brad Schell for the 2008-09 season. In addition, the Gladiators have released Jacob Anderson and Mike Coomer from the team.

Schell returns to the Gladiators after appearing in 29 games last season for Gwinnett. After joining the team in February, he notched 8 goals and 30 assists for 38 points for the Gladiators.

Schell lead the team and the ECHL in scoring during the 2006-07 season with 110 points off of 25 goals and 85 assists. His efforts earned him ECHL MVP during that season.

The Scott, Saskatchewan native's 110 points and 85 assists during the 2006-07 season were both all-time team highs. Schell also lead the ECHL in assists and scoring that year and his season assist total stands as the fourth highest season total in league history.

The 6-foot and 190-pound centerman accomplished his scoring feats in only 63 games with the Gladiators. He also notched 12 regular season games for the AHL Chicago Wolves during the 2006-07 season as he collected 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points. In addition, Schell tallied 2 assists for the Wolves in 15 playoff games.

The Gladiators open the 2008-09 season on Saturday, October 18th at the Arena at Gwinnett Center as they host the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 7:05 p.m.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 23 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
