February 27, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (23-24-6, 52 Points) defeated the Stockton Thunder (24-21-8, 56 Points) 5-2 in front of 4,124 fans Friday night at the Orleans Arena.
A balanced scoring attack paced the Wranglers as five different Wranglers netted goals. Alex Bourret earned first star honors with a goal and two assists. Forwards Josh Prudden, Jerry Pollastrone, Jeff Hazelwood and Adam Miller also tallied for the Wranglers. Netminder Michael Ouzas made 32 saves in his return from injury for his 17th win of the season. Thunder goaltender Aaron Sorochan took the loss, making 19 saves on 24 Wranglers shots in two periods before giving way to Andrew Perugini who made 4 saves. Oren Eizenman and Matt Robinson scored for Stockton.
Stockton took the lead just 38 seconds into the contest as J.F. Caudron fed a pass to Oren Eizenman from behind the Wranglers net for the early 1-0 lead. At the 5:19 mark, the Wranglers answered as Alex Bourret slammed home a power play goal from the left point to tie the game at one. With Garet Hunt in the box serving a five-minute major penalty for boarding, the Wranglers took the lead on the power play as Ned Lukacevic found Josh Prudden alone in front of the Stockton net. Prudden redirected the puck through Sorochan's legs for the 2-1 lead. Stockton tied up the game minutes later as Matt Robinson fired home a rebound generated from a 2-on-1 odd man rush.
The second period proved decisive as the Wranglers scored three unanswered goals. Jeff Hazelwood jumped out of the penalty box, took a long pass from defenseman Mike Madill and scored on the breakaway for a 3-2 lead just 1:06 into the period; a goal that would prove to be the game-winner. The Wranglers extended their lead just over six minutes later as Jerry Pollastrone's wrist shot from the circle evaded Aaron Sorochan to give the Wranglers a two-goal advantage. At the 11:57 mark, Adam Miller netted his 18th goal of the year as he redirected a shot by Mick Lawrence top-shelf for the 5-2 lead.
The Thunder changed goalies to start the final frame, but it proved to be of no assistance as the two teams skated through the period scoreless and the Wranglers took the contest by a final score of 5-2.
