Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Idaho peppered Scott Reid with 51 shots while limiting Alaska to a season-low 14 in a 7-1 victory to sweep a three-game series in front of a sell-out crowd of 5,385 Saturday at Qwest Arena.

The Aces drop back to .500 overall (26-26-5) and have lost seven of their last eight games on the road. Alaska does own an eight-game unbeaten streak at home, however, and the Aces play host to Utah this week at Sullivan Arena with Wednesday and Thursday game scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with live Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning at 7:00 p.m. Alaska took two of three from the Grizzlies in Utah over Thanksgiving and again in Anchorage in early January.

The Steelheads blistered Reid with 16 first period shots while surrendering just three, breaking through when Evan Barlow forced a turnover, streaked in on a breakaway, and beat Reid with a backhander at 8:15. Dustin Friesen scored the first of four Idaho power play goals with 9:08 left in the frame, but the hosts had to settle for a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second period proved more of the same, with the Steelies out-shotting Alaska 20-5 and stretching their lead to 4-0 on goals by Ashton Rome and Kevin DeVergillio two minutes apart early in the frame. Mark Derlago's third goal of the series at 3:20 of the final stanza stretched the margin to 5-0 before Judd Blackwater broke up Rejean Beauchemin's shutout bid two minutes later with his third goal of the series and 26th of the year (nine in 12 games against Idaho). Power play goals by John Swanson and Marty Flichel in the last four minutes of regulation accounted for the final margin.
