Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Bakersfield, CA - In a Friday night contest, the Victoria Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors met in the first of a two-game set at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, CA. Victoria gave Glenn Fisher the nod in net, while Bakersfield countered with Jean-Phillipe Levasseur.

Bakersfield jumped out first as Andrew Ianiero was sent in down the right wall on a breakaway. Ianiero did not beat Fisher on the wrist shot, but Stephane Goulet was there to pick up the rebound and roof the puck in for the 1-0 lead at the 5:00 minute mark. A mere 39 seconds later, Ryan Menei would take a pass through the slot from Ianiero and fire the puck into the cage for the 2-0 lead. The Condors would hold that advantage at the end of the first period.

The second period the scorers were held at bay with the Condors outshooting the Kings 14-11. The score remained 2-0 Bakersfield through 40 minutes.

The Condors would stretch their lead to 3-0 when Menei flew down the right side and fired a hard shot at the net. Fisher kicked it away, but the rebound bounced of Goulet and then off a Victoria defenseman finally ended up in the back of the net. With just over two minutes remaining in the third the Salmon Kings realized a 5-on-3 power play. With the goalie pulled Wes Goldie was able to tally two late markers, but Victoria was unable to draw even. Condors 3 Salmon Kings 2.

Victoria went 2/8=25% on the power play while Bakersfield was 0/5=0.0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Condors 43-37.

The Salmon Kings continue their two-game set tomorrow night versus Bakersfield at 7:00 p.m. Victoria returns home to host the National Conference leading Idaho Steelheads for a three-game set with matches on Wednesday, March 10th, Friday, March 12th, and Saturday, March 13th.
