Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals cruised past the Wheeling Nailers 4-1 on Saturday night at First Arena in Elmira N.Y., receiving two goals from Chris Korchinski and 29 saves from Andy Chiodo as they increased their American East Division lead to 10 points.

Korchinski scored the first of his two goals at 8:24 of the first period. Bear Trapp walked in front, and after his wrist shot was stopped by Nailers goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak, Korchinski sent in the rebound for the 1-0 advantage for the Jackals.

In the second period, the Nailers hurt their chances when defenseman Kyle Bushee redirected a Justin Donati shot past his teammate Teslak to make it 2-0 Jackals at 14:32. Donati's goal, his team-leading 33rd of the season, was his first game-winning goal of 2009-2010.

Jordan Fox countered moments later with a wrist shot from the slot that beat Chiodo stick side at 16:24 to cut into the Jackals lead and make it 2-1.

Korchinski and Trapp responded shortly thereafter, however, when Trapp found Korchinski in front who one-timed the puck past Teslak for the 3-1 lead at at 16:56 of the second.

Chaz Johnson redirected an R.J. Anderson shot past Teslak on the power-play in the third period at 13:25 to make it 4-1 and close out the scoring.

Chiodo's 29 saves helped him improve to 5-1-0-0 with the Jackals this season, while Teslak fell to 11-15-2-2.

The Jackals upped their record to 31-19-3-2 on the season. Their division-leading increased by one point, as Trenton beat Reading on Saturday night to move into second place. Wheeling fell to 27-27-2-3.

Elmira hosts Johnstown on Friday and Kalamazoo on Saturday at First Arena, with both games beginning at 7:35 p.m. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office.
