WORCESTER, MA – Worcester IceCats Executive VP/ COO Kevin Cummings today made public charitable giving figures for the American Hockey League (AHL) club. Through just three months of the season, the ‘Cats have raised $106,576 for a host of admirable causes, highlighted most recently by their W6 Jerseys.

"The IceCats commitment to the community is as strong as ever and were excited by the success," noted Cummings. "The generosity of our fans and the quality of the organizations that we work with make it easy for us to continue the commitment."

W6 Jerseysà In honor of the six Worcester firefighters that perished in the Worcester Cold Storage Building fire and to mark the fifth year anniversary of the fateful date, the ‘Cats wore special red W6 jerseys on December 3rd and again on the 11th. During the game on the 11th, 30 W6 jerseys were auctioned off and again IceCats fans were generous, with nearly $37,000 raised for the Worcester Fire Fighters Memorial Fund.

IceCats InvitationalàBeginning during the preseason, the IceCats hosted their first-ever golf tournament and raised over $14,000 for the Worcester Salvation Army. In addition, the IceCats kicked off and participated in the Army's holiday kettle campaign and assisted in toy and food distribution and a coat drive.

Pink PucksàOctober was also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and for a second straight season, the Worcester IceCats, in partnership with 104.5 WXLO, sold pink hockey pucks to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Massachusetts Affiliate. This year's campaign raised $31,350. Coupled with inaugural pink puck sales in 2003-2004, the IceCats have helped raise $51,515 for the local Komen affiliate.

Tip-A-CatàNovember was the month for the annual Tip-A-Cat dinner. With IceCats players acting as celebrity waiters, the organization filled the coffers of the Kiwanis Club Charities by $17,000. The money is currently assisting children's charities throughout Worcester County.

Chuck-A-PuckàThe ongoing chuck-a-puck promotion has taken in $7,153 to date for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

MoreàIn early December, in partnership with Peterson Oil Service and the American Red Cross, the IceCats held their 10th Annual Blood Drive. This year's drive saw over 431 donors give of their time and blood, totaling 368 usable life-saving pints and included 44 first time donors. Other ongoing partnerships incorporate the ‘Cats work with Habitat for Humanity, Why Me, Bay State Savings Bank Community Seats program, and the countless visits by All-Star Mascot Scratch around Central Massachusetts. This includes the new reading program, ‘Cat Tales. Several hundred children have been introduced to the rewards and joy of reading through player reading sessions at the Main Worcester Public Library and the Millbury Public Library.
