Cleveland Barons News Release
BUSY WEEK... The Barons will play five games in six nights this week. While the Barons have competed in several 5-games-in-7-nights stretches over the years, this marks the most games that the Barons have ever played in a six-day stretch.
1/4 & 5 /05 @ Manitoba â MTS Centre â 8:30pm
This will be the Barons first foray into the MTS Centre which opened on November 17th. The Moose are just 6-4-0-0 at the MTS Centre. Since moving to the brand-new facility, the Moose have averaged 9,179 fans per game, including 15,015 on the building's opener. In four meetings, each team has two victories. The Barons two victories over the Moose both came after regulation; a 3-2 shootout win on 11/11 and a 3-2 overtime win on 12/28. Ryane Clowe has performed well against Manitoba, recording two goals and three assists against the Moose in four games (2-3-5). Jason King has seven goals against Cleveland this season, including two short-handed goals in the last meeting.
1/7/05 vs. Rochester â National City Rink located in Gund Arena â 7:00pm
This will mark the first of eight contests between the Barons and the Americans this season. Rochester is led by Derek Roy, whose 33 points in 33 games paces the Americans. Chris Taylor is second on the Americans with 30 points. He is the all-time points leader in the all-time series against the Barons with 26 points (9-17-26).
NATIONAL CITY BANK NIGHT... Every Friday night, fans can purchase $16 tickets at a 2-for-1 special when presenting a National City Bank card at the Gund Arena Box Office. The offer is only valid at the Gund Arena Box Office.
1/8/05 vs. Grand Rapids - National City Rink located in Gund Arena â 8:00pm
The Barons will host a special 8:00pm face-off against the Griffins on Saturday night. The Barons are 2-2-0-1 against Grand Rapids this season. Both teams have a shootout win in the series and each team has a shutout against each other. Nolan Schaefer is 1-1-0 against the Griffins with a 1.52 goals against average and a .957 save percentage this season. The Griffins Joey MacDonald has been great against the Barons in net this season. He has a 2-1-1 record with a 1.44 goals against average and a .958 save percentage against Cleveland this season.
DOUG MURRAY BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT... The Barons will hand out a National City Doug Murray Bobblehead to the first 3,000 fans in attendance on Saturday night. The 6'4", 240-pound defenseman is known for his bone-jarring, teeth-rattling hits. This is his second season in Cleveland.
1/9/05 vs. Grand Rapids - National City Rink located in Gund Arena â 5:00pm
Niklas Kronwall leads the Griffins against the Barons with 7 points in the season series (1-6-7). Kronwall, a defenseman, leads Grand Rapids with 27 points on the season (9-18-27). In five games against the Barons this season, Eric Manlow leads all scorers with three goals. Manlow also leads the Griffins with 14 goals on the season. Shane Joseph leads the Barons with 4 points against the Griffins this season (1-3-4). Five of the Barons nine goals against Grand Rapids have come in the first period. The Barons are 6-1-0-1 when leading after the first period.
MATT CARKNER AUTOGRAPH CARD... The first 3,000 fans in attendance on Sunday will receive a Matt Carkner Autographed Action Photo. Carkner hand-signed all 3,000 prints. It is the second in the four-card set. Fans can get the Nolan Schaefer card on 3/28 and the Shane Joseph card on 4/8. Fans that attended the Barons game on 12/4 received the Marcel Goc card, the first in the set.
Cleveland Barons Hockey Insider Show The Cleveland Barons Hockey Insider Show will make its debut on Monday, January 10th from 8-9pm on SportsTalk 850-AM WKNR. The weekly show will be hosted by The Voice of the Barons Jamie Smock and Jason Gibbs, Promotions Director for WKNR. The show can also be heard on www.sportstalkcleveland.com.
FSN Ohio To Televise Barons vs. Crunch
The Barons game against the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday, January 12th at Nationwide Arena in Columbus at 7:00pm will be televised on FSN Ohio. Moved to Nationwide Arena on January 12th, the game between the Barons and Crunch was originally scheduled to be played on Sunday, March 27th in Syracuse. The telecast will mark the first Barons game to be televised locally in their four-season history. Calling the action on the telecast is the Blue Jackets new broadcast duo, Jeff Rimer and Brian Engblom.
Money In The "Bank" National City Rink has been kind to the Barons lately. In their last 13 games on National City Rink, the Barons are 9-3-0-1. In seven of those wins, the Barons scored three goals. Also, eight of the last 13 home games have been decided by a score of 3-2. The Barons are out-scoring their opponent 35-30 in the last 13 home games.
It's Great At The Gund
Gund Arena has been kind to its home teams since November 10th. Combined, the Barons (9-3-0-1) and Cavaliers (11-2) are 20-5-0-1 since that date. In hockey terms, that is a combined winning percentage of .788.
Natural Born Killers The Barons have allowed just eight power play goals in the last 16 games. They have killed 58 out of a possible 66 penalties in that span for a 87.9% success rate on the PK.
Passing Proficiency
The last 16 power play goals by the Barons have been assisted by two players. The Barons currently have 27 power play goals this season. With 53 assists, all but one of those goals has been accompanied by two assists. The one goal that did not have two assists came on November 6th in the Barons win over Hamilton in overtime. The Barons first goal of the game, scored by Christian Ehrhoff on the power play, was assisted by Marcel Goc.
Barons Player of the Week
The Cleveland Barons Player of the Week is left wing Ryane Clowe. On the week, Clowe totaled 2 goals and 4 assists in four games. On Tuesday against Manitoba, Clowe had a hand in all three goals scored by the Barons in their 3-2 overtime win (1-2-3). Clowe scored the game-winner in the overtime stanza. On the week, Clowe figured in 60% of the Barons goals (6-10).
The Clowe-ser
Ryane Clowe has been on fire over the last nine games. In that nine-game span, Clowe has 14 points (4-10-14) and a +9 plus/minus rating. He has recorded one point in the last 11 out of the last 15 games. His 27 points, 18 assists, and +10 plus/minus rating all lead the Barons. Clowe has been productive on the power play as he leads the team with 10 points and five power play goals. Clowe's four-point performance on 12/12 against Cincinnati tied a career-high and set the Barons season-high mark.
Oh My Goc
Marcel Goc returned to the lineup this past week after missing four games due to injury. He has recorded one point in the last two games (1-1-2). By scoring a goal against Manitoba on Saturday, Goc snapped a 22-game goal-less streak. On the season, Goc's 18 points are third on the team. His eight goals are tied for second on the Barons, while his 10 assists are fourth. His three short-handed goals this season are tied for the league lead. They all came unassisted.
A Jaff-Ray Of Light
Jason Jaffray, the newest addition to the Barons, has one point in each of the last two games. Those two games against the Road Runners were a homecoming for Jaffray, who was raised just outside Edmonton. Jaffray scored his first AHL goal in the first game of the set. The goal came on the power play. It was assisted by Grant Stevenson and Shane Joseph, who are both Alberta natives as well.
Dimitri Dominant
Dimitri Patzold has won his four out of his last five games. In 304:51, Patzold has stopped 118 out of 129 shots for a .915 save percentage. In those games, Patzold has a 2.16 goals against average. On the season, Patzold is 9-6-2 with a .917 save percentage and a 2.43 goals against average.
Riss Shot
Patrick Rissmiller now has 107 points in his three-year career with the Barons. That is second on the franchise's all-time point list. He is chasing Miroslav Zalesak who is atop the list with 166 points. Rissmiller leads the Barons with 11 goals this season. His 22 points (11-11-22) and 102 shots are both second on the Barons. In the last eight games, Rissmiller has recorded three goals and five assists with a +5 plus/minus rating. Rissmiller is second on the team with 5 multi-point games this season.
Shane On You
Shane Joseph, a right wing, leads the Barons in rookie scoring with 17 points and is tied for 11th in the league among rookies. Among the leagues rookies, his seven goals are and ten assists are both tied for 11th among league rookies. Those 10 assists and 17 points are tied for fourth on the Barons.
I'll Grant You That The Barons play well when center Grant Stevenson records a point. Stevenson has recorded at least one point in eleven games. In those games, the Barons are 9-2-0-0. The Barons are 4-0-0-0 when Stevenson scores a goal.
