ST. JOHN'S, NF - The Hamilton Bulldogs earned their 300th regular season win of all-time by defeating the St. John's Maple Leafs 4-1 at Mile One Stadium on Tuesday night. Forward Jason Ward also recorded the Bulldogs 2000th goal in the contest.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring at the 11:12 mark of the first period. Bulldogs forward Raitis Ivanans took the initial shot on the Maple Leafs goal, Corey Locke grabbed the rebound and fired it past Maple Leafs goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin.

Jason Ward made it 2-0 for the Bulldogs by scoring a shorthanded goal at the 6:48 mark of the second period. The goal was also the Bulldogs 2000th regular season goal of all time. Steve Ott made a nifty pass to Ward on a two-on-one play, and Ward scored on his backhand.

The Bulldogs went ahead 3-0 at 14:44 on the power play when rookie defenceman James Sanford tipped a Jancevski point shot into the St. John's goal. Sanford's goal was the first of his career; in his first career Bulldogs game. Sanford was recalled on Monday from Peoria of the ECHL.

Locke scored his second goal of the game for the Bulldogs at 16:04 with a great individual effort. Locke deked around St. John's defenceman Marc Moro and then roofed a shot into the St. John's goal.

Jason MacDonald would add a goal for the Maple Leafs with 4:36 remaining in the third period.

In goal, Bulldogs goaltender Dan Ellis made 27 saves for his fourth win of the season. For the Maple Leafs, Jean-Sebastien Aubin stoped 20 shots over the first two periods. Jean-Francois Racine replaced Aubin in the third period and made 12 saves.

The Bulldogs were 1 for 4 on the power play. Hamilton has now scored a power-play goal in each of the past four games. The Maple Leafs did not score with the man-advantage.

Hamilton now has 35 points in 36 games on a record of 14 wins, 15 losses, 4 overtime losses and 3 shootout losses.
