'Wolves Take Game One, 8-2

The SeaWolves, behind a strong starting pitching performance from Josh Rainwater, took down the Binghamton Mets in game one of Tuesday night's doubleheader at Jerry Uht Park by a score of 8-2.

The ‘Wolves jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning against Binghamton starter Bobby Parnell. Danny Worth and Danny Worth both singled with one out and Ryan Roberson was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Deik Scram. Scram connected on a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Worth for a 1-0 Erie lead. Dusty Ryan followed with a single to left and on a throwing error by catcher Salomon Manriquez, Frazier scored to make it 2-0. Also on the play, Roberson advanced to third and Ryan made it to second. Pedro Cotto then brought Roberson and Ryan home on a double down the right field line for a 4-0 Erie lead.

The B-Mets cut into the lead in the top of the second inning. Ambiorix Concepcion doubled with one out and scored on an Emmanuel Garcia base hit to make it a 4-1 game in favor of the ‘Wolves.

The ‘Wolves would increase their lead in the top of the third. Scram led off with a single and with one out, Cotto singled to put a pair on for Casper Wells. Wells singled home Scram to put the ‘Wolves back ahead by four runs at 5-1. With two outs, Will Rhymes lined a single to right to bring home both Cotto and Wells for a 7-1 lead.

After the B-Mets scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead down to five runs, Ryan Roberson led off the bottom half of the inning and put the ‘Wolves back up by six when he crushed his team-leading 17th home run off of reliever Eddie Camacho for an 8-2 lead.

Rainwater nearly went the distance for the ‘Wolves as he improved to 7-4. He went 6.1 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout. Rainwater is Erie's first seven-game winner in 2008.

Danny Zell came in to relieve Rainwater in the seventh to retire the final two outs of the game.
