
'Wolves Slug Their Way to Series Win

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves bats picked up right where they left off on Wednesday night as they took down the Binghamton Mets, 8-2, on Thursday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Erie won three of four from the Mets and improved to 25-27 on the season.
The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the second inning against Mets starter Tobi Stoner. Francisco Martinez led off with his sixth double of the season and he came home to score on a one-out single by Audy Ciriaco for a 1-0 lead. Ciriaco stole second and scored on a Michael Rocket base hit to left for a 2-0 lead.
Binghamton cut the lead in half against Erie starter Casey Crosby in the bottom of the second. Brahiam Maldonado led off and reached on a Martinez error. With one out, Jean Luc Blaquiere singled and with two outs, Carlos Guzman walked loading the bases. Jose Coronado singled home Maldonado making it a 2-1 game.
Erie kept swinging hot bats into the third. Jamie Johnson led off with a walk but was retired at second on a fielder's choice that put Brandon Douglas at first. Justin Henry laid down a bunt single putting two on for Rawley Bishop. Bishop snapped an 0-for-9 skid at the plate as he slammed his seventh double off the wall in center, plating two for a 4-1 lead. With two outs, Michael Bertram blooped a double into shallow center scoring Bishop for a 5-1 lead.
The Mets again cut into the lead in the bottom of the third. Salomon Manriquez singled with one out and scored on a two-out Blaquiere double making it 5-2 'Wolves.
In the top of the fifth, Henry lead off and doubled off the glove of a diving Manriquez at first. Bishop followed with his second double of the game off the wall in left, scoring Henry for a 6-2 lead. With one out, Bertram crushed his second home run of the season over the wall in right for an 8-2 Erie lead. The home run for Bertram was his first since May 12.
The Mets would get no closer as Crosby, along with relievers Austin Wood and Chance Ruffin held the opposition scoreless over the final six innings of the game.
Crosby (3-2) worked 6.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits with six walk and six strikeouts. It was the fifth consecutive outing for Crosby where he went at least six innings.
The SeaWolves return home on Friday to take on the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals).7:05 First Pitch.
