'Wolves Shut out Rock Cats for Series Win

The SeaWolves won their second straight game on Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium as they shut out the New Britain Rock Cats 2-0. The win brings the ‘Wolves to within a game of .500 at 30-31.

Erie broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning against Rock Cats starter Deinys Suarez. Bryan Holaday led off with a single to center and he was sacrificed into scoring position on a Shawn Roof bunt. Jamie Johnson stepped in and connected on a double down the left field line, plating Holaday for a 1-0 lead. The double for Johnson was his 10th of the season.

In the ninth, Erie would add an insurance run against reliever Tyler Robertson. With two outs, Francisco Martinez blooped a single to center. Martinez would come home from first on a bloop single from Rawley Bishop for a 2-0 lead.

The lead was more than enough for the Erie pitching staff which tossed its fourth shutout of the season.

Mark Sorensen (6-3) becomes the ‘Wolves first six-game winner as he tossed seven innings, allowing three hits with three walks and four strikeouts. It was his first shutout performance of the season.

Austin Wood worked a scoreless eighth inning. He yielded a leadoff double to Chris Cates but worked out of it with no damage.

In the ninth, Chance Ruffin earned his seventh save as he preserved the shutout victory.

Erie has the day off on Monday and will resume action on Tuesday night as the club beings a six-game homestand and a three-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox)...7:05 First Pitch. Lefty Casey Crosby (4-2, 3.19 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Brock Huntzinger (3-4, 6.34 ERA)
