Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Akron Aeros completed a three-game sweep of the Senators on Sunday with a 5-4 win in front of 6,343, the largest crowd this season at Metro Bank Park. The Aeros used tremendous outings out of their bullpen for the sweep and with the sweep, move to 31-33 on the season while the Senators drop to 34-27.
The Senators scored first, with Steve Lombardozzi scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyler Moore. Akron then plated two runs in the second off of Sens' starter Brad Peacock giving Akron a 2-1 lead. Jonathan Tucker singled in Alex Valdez with two-outs in the second to tie the score, and it stayed that way until the seventh inning.
Peacock was the first of five pitchers for the Sens on Sunday. Peacock went 6.1 innings and struck out 10, but took the loss when with one-out in the seventh, Kyle Bellows reached on an error. Peacock was removed for Pat McCoy, who gave up three consecutive hits, two of them producing runs, giving Akron a 4-2 lead. Pat Lehman came on and allowed an RBI double giving Akron a 5-2 lead.
Chris Rahl doubled in Tucker and Lombardozzi in the eighth, but was stranded at second with Moore and Derek Norris both struck out against Matt Langwell.
Cory Burns pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his 15th save on the season. Paolo Espino, making the spot start for Akron, pitched six innings for the win.
Lombardozzi, Rahl, and Archie Gilbert all had two hits in the game.
After an off-day on Monday, the Senators open a three-game series at Trenton on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on your ipad or iphone beginning at 6:50 p.m.
