'Wolves Fall To Harrisburg

The SeaWolves eight-game home winning streak came to an end on Tuesday night with a 7-4 loss to the Harrisburg Senators.

The ‘Wolves jumped ahead in the bottom of the third against Harrisburg starter Justin Jones. With two outs, Scott Sizemore sent a home run over the wall in left-center for a 1-0 lead. Max Leon then reached on an error and he would score on a Brennan Boesch single for a 2-0 lead.

Erie starter Luis Marte started the game with four scoreless innings, facing one batter over the minimum, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth. Marvin Lowrance led off and on the first pitch of the inning, put Harrisburg on the board with a solo home run to center making it 2-1. With one out, Bill Rhinehart tied the game at 2-2 with his fourth home run of the season over the wall in right. Luke Mont then walked and eventually scored on a groundout by Michael Daniel for a 3-2 Harrisburg lead.

The Sens would then take a five-run lead in the top of the fifth. With one out, Joel Guzman walked and Lowrance doubled, putting runners on second and third. With two outs, Rhinehart was intentionally walked to load the bases, bringing up Montz in a right-on-right match up. Montz deposited a line drive grand slam over the wall in left for a 7-2 Harrisburg lead.

Erie would get one back in the bottom of the eighth when Ryan Strieby led off and connected on his league-leading 11th home run over the right field wall to make it 7-3.

In the bottom of the ninth, the ‘Wolves would attempt to rally once more. Sizemore led off with a single and Leon walked giving Erie a pair of baserunners. A pair of flyouts by Boesch and Strieby recorded the first two outs of the inning. On the Boesch flyout, Sizemore advanced to third on a throwing error. Cale Iorg stepped in and connected on an infield single, bringing home Sizemore, making it a three-run game at 7-4. Closer Zech Zinicola would be brought in and he retired Santo De Leon for the final out of the game.

Marte (2-4) took the loss for Erie. He went six-plus innings, allowing seven hits on seven hits with three walks while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts. He has now dropped his last two decisions.
