New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Portland, ME- Luis Perez, Bubbie Buzachero and Edgar Estanga combined on a three-hit shutout, and Luis Sanchez had an RBI double, a walk and a run scored as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened a three-game series at Hadlock Field with a 3-0 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night.
Portland (18-19) led off the game with back-to-back singles from Bubba Bell (2-for-4) and Mark Wagner (1-for-4) against Perez, loading the bases with one out before the southpaw wiggled off the hook. The Sea Dogs would not get another runner to second base the rest of the night and managed only other hit, Bell's eighth-inning single off Buzachero.
Perez (3-4) snapped a personal three-game skid by working 5.1 shutout innings. The left-hander worked around five walks and notched three strikeouts. Buzachero fanned two over 2.2 scoreless frames before Estanga struck out two of the three hitters he faced in the ninth for his second save in two opportunities.
New Hampshire (22-17) grabbed a 1-0 lead without the benefit of a hit against losing pitcher Ryne Lawson in the top of the third inning when Sanchez (1-for-2, 2B, BB, RBI, R) walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out and scored when Lawson uncorked his second wild pitch of the inning.
Sanchez made it 2-0 in favor of the Fisher Cats with a two-out double to left-centerfield off Lawson in the fifth inning, scoring Al Quintana (walk) all the way from first base.
The Fisher Cats increased the lead to 3-0 against Lawson in the sixth inning when Brad Emaus (2-for-4, 2B, R) doubled and scored on a Brian Dopirak (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) double.
Lawson (0-2) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. The right-hander struck out four.
The Fisher Cats send left-hander Marc Rzepczynski (6-2, 2.93), the Eastern League leader in both victories and strikeouts, up against Sea Dogs' right-hander Jarod Plummer (1-1, 5.96) at 6:00pm Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. Radio coverage begins at 5:45pm with the BayRing Pre-Game Show on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Mike Murphy.
The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium this Friday night, May 22, to open a four-game series against the Trenton Thunder at 7:05pm. It will be Law Enforcement Night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, and it's also David Ortiz Bobblehead Giveaway Night, courtesy of Sovereign Bank.
