Chesapeake Baysox News Release
BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox are teaming up with Holy Cross Hospital on June 7, to host the fourth annual Pink In The Park Day to raise awareness for women's cancer. The team takes on the Erie SeaWolves at 2:05 p.m. The event features a giveaway for female fans and the Baysox will wear one-of-a-kind pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game, benefiting the Holy Cross Hospital Cancer Institute.
Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross is looking forward to expanding upon past Pink in the Park days. "In the past three years, the Baysox have been able to raise over $25,000 to benefit the Holy Cross Hospital Cancer Institute. We feel it is more important than ever to continue our support of charitable organizations, especially one like Holy Cross's Cancer Institute that benefits so many people."
The Baysox will kick off the event by giving the first 1,000 female fans ages three and up a free pink Baysox logo bag! The team hopes the bags will add to the environment at Prince George's Stadium, and fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support.
Fans won't be the only ones clad in pink as the Baysox take the field in one-of-a-kind pink jerseys. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game, and winning bidders will head onto the field afterwards, where players will sign the jerseys and pose for pictures. Over the first three years of Pink in the Park, jersey auctions have raised more than $25,000 to support early breast cancer detection and smoking cessation programs through the Holy Cross Hospital Cancer Institute Fund.
Prior to the game, the Baysox and Holy Cross Hospital will conduct special ceremonies recognizing and honoring women's cancer survivors, volunteers and doctors that have been influential in this region for their efforts with Cancer treatment, awareness and prevention. More information on Holy Cross Hospital can be found by visiting www.holycrosshealth.org.
