'Wolves Drop Three Straight to Aeros

The SeaWolves dropped their third straight game on Saturday night at Canal Park by a score of 6-5 to the Akron Aeros.

The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the fifth inning against Akron starter Eric Berger. Rawley Bishop led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Cesar Nicolas followed, laid down a bunt, and beat it out for single putting runners on the corners for Michael Bertram. With Bertram hitting, a passed ball allowed Bishop to score from third for a 1-0 lead. Bertram then singled up the middle, scoring Nicolas for a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Andy Dirks singled home Kody Kaiser for a 3-0 lead.

Akron struck right back in the bottom of the fifth against Erie starter Charlie Furbush. Asdrubal Cabrera doubled with one out and Lonnie Chisenhall singled with two outs putting two on for Matt McBride. McBridge doubled home the base runners making it a one-run game at 3-2.

Erie came back in the top of the sixth going back ahead by three. Bishop reached on a two-out fielder's choice and Nicolas followed with a solo home run to straight away center, his seventh, for a 5-2 lead.

The Aeros got one back in the bottom of the sixth when Jerad Head hit a solo home run, his seventh, over the wall in left making it 5-3.

Akron would take the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Furbush came in and faced the first two hitters of the inning. Jason Kipnis led off with a double and he scored on a ground rule double off the bat of Chisenhall making it a 5-4 game. With one out, reliever Zach Simons surrendered a single to Beau Mills bringing home the games tying run. Mills would score on a two-out single by Miguel Perez giving the Aeros their first lead of the night at 6-5.

Furbush took the no-decision going six-plus innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits with nine strikeouts. He has struck out 29 hitters over his last three starts.

The 'Wolves will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.1:35 First Pitch. Righty Thad Weber (6-9, 4.05 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Scott Barnes (4-8, 5.08 ERA).
