New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

The bullpen held the Mets without a run, but the Fisher Cats weren't able to claw back in a 5-1 loss in front of 7,274 Saturday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Clint Everts pitched three innings of scoreless relief, followed by two more shutout innings by Ronald Uviedo, yet it wasn't enough as the New Hampshire offense was kept off the scoreboard from the first inning on.

Despite the two errors committed by New Hampshire (56-38), the Fisher Cats made some stand-out plays in the field on Pan-Mass Challenge night. Brian Jeroloman threw out two base runners trying to steal second, while Adam Loewen caught a batter trying to stretch a single into a double by throwing a frozen rope from the warning track to second for the outfield assist.

Fisher Cats starter Kyle Drabek (9-9) entered the game on a 19.1 inning scoreless streak, and had held the Mets without a run in all 11.2 innings he has faced Binghamton this season, but tonight would be different. The Mets got to Drabek for three runs in the first, highlighted by back-to-back blasts. Josh Satin hit a two-run, inside the park homerun that caromed off the right-center triangle scoring Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who reached on an error. Marshall Hubbard then hit a conventional home run with a dinger over the right field fence on a 2-1 offering to bring the score to 3-0.

Adeiny Hechavarria (2 for 4) helped the Fisher Cats bounce right back in the bottom of the first. After reaching on a single, Hechavarria moved station to station on a fielder's choice, a wild pitch and a RBI single by Shawn Bowman (2 for 4), narrowing the gap to 3-1.

Leadoff hitter Nieuwenhuis scored his second run in as many innings in the top of the second. The center fielder got on with a one-out single, and scored all the way from first on a Sean Ratliff RBI double to answer right back, and make it 4-1.

The Mets (50-44) scored in the first three consecutive innings by tallying another run in third. A one-out walk to Mike Nickeas eventually led to a two-out Jose Coronado RBI single, bumping the score to 5-1.

After a scoreless fourth, Drabek handed the ball over to the bullpen. He finished allowing five runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits, while striking out four and walking two.

Binghamton starter and eventual winner Josh Stinson (7-1) went six innings to record the victory. He gave up one earned run on seven hits, while striking out five Fisher Cats and walking three. Dylan Owen and John Lujan picked up where Stinson left off, by holding New Hampshire without a run in three innings of relief.

The Fisher Cats will try to manage a split of their four game series against the Mets during a Sunday matinee at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. A pair of right-handers will face off in New Hampshire's Randy Boone (2-4, 3.80) and Binghamton's Kyle Weiland (4-5, 4.30). Fisher Cats Pre Game begins at 1:15 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.

The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates Sunday will receive a Free Ollie Pencil Pouch. It is also Autism Awareness Day at the ballpark. The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox will be playing the Fisher Cats at Merchantsauto.com Stadium from July 19-21.
