Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves put together eight innings of solid defense in the series finale against Bowie. Unfortunately, one bad inning allowed the BaySox to win the series with a 5-2 victory.

The game looked to be going Erie's way after one. Brandon Douglas' double put him in scoring position for Jordan Lennerton. The first baseman grabbed his team leading 64th RBI when he brought home Douglas for an early 1-0 Erie lead.

After three innings, Patrick Cooper had retired 27 consecutive batters but things unraveled for the recently recalled starter in the fourth. The entire Bowie lineup batted and scored five runs. Antoan Richardson scored on a passed ball from third and Robbie Widlansky finished the at bat with an RBI double to give Bowie a 2-1 lead.

Manny Manchado was hit by a errant Cooper pitch and moved to second on a ground out to put two runners in scoring position with two outs for BaySox third baseman Ty Kelly. Kelly watched a wild pitch score Widlansky from third and doubled home Manchado to extend the lead to 4-1. The Bowie scoring finished when Nick Castellanos misplayed a liner to right hit by Buck Britton that scored Widlansky and made the game 5-1.

Cooper would settle down after the fourth to finish the game with seven innings of work, five runs (four earned) four strikeouts on 93 pitches. Tyler Stohr and Ryan Robowski would finish the final two innings for Erie and keep Bowie off the board.

Michael Rockett scored the second and final Erie run of the day off of starter Eddie Gamboa when he tripled down the right field line. The throw into Kelly at third base was mishandled and Rockett beat Kelly's desperate throw home. Michael Belfiore and Clay Schrader would hold Erie off the board for Kyler Newby, who picked up his fifth save of the season.
