Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron, OH - Akron's Thomas Neal hit a two-out walk-off bases-loaded RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Aeros swept Harrisburg with a 6-5 victory.
With the win, Akron (58-39) increased their winning streak to six games. Harrisburg (49-48) dropped their fifth consecutive game, in the process falling to third place in the EL West.
Harrisburg jumped to an early 3-0 lead when Chris Rahl hit a three-run home run off Akron starter Steven Wright. The Senators added a run in the fourth inning on a Jose Lozada RBI single to take a 4-0 advantage. The Aeros answered with three runs of their own in the fourth on the strength of a two-run double from Ryan Rohlinger. Adam Abraham promptly drove home Rohlinger on an RBI double of his own, bringing the score to 4-3. Pahuta's home run in the sixth brought the score to 5-3, which was quickly brought to a 5-4 score when Akron added a sixth inning run of their own. No scoring took place again until the bottom of the ninth inning when Nick Weglarz registered a bases loaded walk off Hector Nelo (1-4) and Neal followed with his game-winner off Rafael Martin.
The Akron offense saw six hitters record hits, with Neal and Abraham recording multi-hit nights. Abraham and Rohlinger were the only Aeros to notch an extra-base hit. Neal was the star of the night for the Aeros, finishing the day going three for four with walk.
Harrisburg's attack was charged by home runs by Rahl and Pahuta, both of whom netted their 11th home runs of the season. The Senators also received multi-hit days from Eury Perez and Lozada; the first two batters in their lineup.
Wright went five innings allowing three earned runs, five hits, and two walks while striking out three batters. Toru Murata and Loek van Mil followed Wright, as van Mil pitched two shutout innings, fanning one. Rob Bryson (4-1) finished the game for Akron, picking up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Harrisburg starter Ryan Perry pitched six innings allowing one run, five hits and three walks while striking out two. Erik Davis and Patrick McCoy combined to throw two shutout innings stymieing the Akron offense. Nelo took the loss after a ninth inning that saw him record two outs and load the bases before surrendering Weglarz's bases-loaded walk. Martin succeeded Nelo and immediately gave up the game-winner to Neal.
The Aeros will hit the road Thursday and begin a short four-game roadtrip at Richmond. Thursday's game will begin at 7:05 PM, and will feature LHP Chris Gloor (2-2, 3.51) pitching for Richmond and a to be announced starter for Akron.
