Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Erie, PA - The Bowie Baysox (48-48) brought their record to .500 today after earning the win over the Erie SeaWolves (45-51) 5-2. Despite being outhit, the Baysox took advantage of sloppy defensive play in the fourth inning and scored five runs on only three hits in the inning.
The SeaWolves struck first for the second straight game against the Baysox when second baseman Brandon Douglas hit a one out double and was later brought home by a Jordan Lennerton double, giving the SeaWolves a 1-0 lead.
SeaWolves' right-handed pitcher Patrick Cooper retired nine-straight Bowie batters before allowing a lead-off walk to Antoan Richardson in the top of the fourth inning. With one out in the inning, Richardson crossed the plate after Erie catcher Luis Alberto Sanz allowed a passed ball. Later in the inning, Josh Barfield was brought home when Robbie Widlansky doubled to left field. With two outs and Ty Kelly batting, a wild pitch by Cooper scored Widlansky. Later in the at bat, Kelly doubled to left field, scoring Manny Machado. Kelly then scored following an Erie fielding error, making the score 5-1 in favor of the Baysox.
The SeaWolves narrowed the Baysox lead in the top of the fifth inning when Michael Rockett hit a lead-off triple and scored on the same play following a fielding error by second baseman Jonathan Schoop, making the score 5-2.
Baysox right-hander Eddie Gamboa earned the win on the day, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out one and walking one.
Cooper was given the loss for the SeaWolves, allowing five runs (four earned) in seven innings on four hits while striking out four and walking one.
This win wrapped up the Baysox seven-game road trip and they will return home tomorrow to begin a seven-game homestand that begins with four games against the Binghamton Mets.
Left-hander Rick Zagone will take the mound for the Baysox tomorrow against the Mets. He is entering the game with a 2-2 record and an ERA of 4.13. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 pm and he will be opposed by LHP Mark Cohoon.
