New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, Conn - Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the Fisher Cats and Rock Cats on Wednesday afternoon, sending a massive thunderstorm over New Britain Stadium in the bottom of the sixth inning. The foul weather cut short the series finale between the clubs, ruining the Fisher Cats (38-60) rally chances in an 8-0 loss. The defeat was the third in the four-game series to New Britain (54-43) and capped off a 2-7 road trip to begin the second half of the season.
New Britain started the scoring against starter Deck McGuire in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run double off the bat of Massachusetts native Chris Colabello. The Rock Cats took advantage of a pair of Fisher Cats errors to score four unearned runs in the fourth. A final pair in the fifth made it 8-0 before McGuire (L; 4-10) left after five innings, giving up four earned runs.
David Bromberg (W; 2-1) pitched six full innings for the Rock Cats, allowing two hits while working around three walks. He struck out two and retired the final eight hitters before the rains came.
Mike McDade and Kevin Howard had the Fisher Cats two hits - both singles. Ryan Goins and Jake Marisnick were both hitless, ending their four-game hitting streaks.
The Fisher Cats now return home to begin a four-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday night. Thursday's game features post-game Atlas Fireworks. It's also Goodwill Night where fans can donate gently used clothing or household items to Goodwill and receive a complimentary ticket to a future Fisher Cats game courtesy of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England. Thursday's pitching match-up features RHP Chad Jenkins (4-9, 5.55) against Portland RHP Stolmy Pimentel (3-4, 5.37). Radio coverage begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
