Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Hartford Wolf Pack skirted past the Springfield Falcons, 3-2, in overtime tonight at the MassMutual Center.
Springfield and Hartford have required extra time in four of six contests this season. The Falcons are currently 2-2-2-0 in the 10-game season series with the Wolf Pack and 6-6 when going into overtime. The team also sits at 29-18-6-0 on the season.
Falcons goaltender Oscar Dansk turned aside 24 of 27 shots in defeat. Hartford netminder Jeff Malcolm stopped 29 of 31. Neither team was productive on the power play, with Springfield going zero-for-four and Hartford zero-for-three.
For the first time since Feb. 7, the Falcons were first on the board, just 3:19 into the opening period. Sean Collins cut towards the net and chipped in a shot from behind his skates to grab his 12th of the season. Assists went to T.J. Tynan and Adam Cracknell.
The Wolf Pack knotted the score halfway through the second period, but the Falcons stole back the lead before the intermission. Danny Kristo threw a feed out from behind the cage that was redirected past Dansk by Tyler Brown for his third goal of the season. Steve Spinell got a point for the helper.
Domenic Monardo put the Falcons back up with 38 seconds remaining in the frame. Luke Adam fired a shot from a sharp angle that caught Monardo's stick and landed in the back of the net. Brian Gibbons earned credit for the secondary assist.
Hartford tied the game for a second time 4:43 into the third to force overtime. Oscar Lindberg lifted a shot over Dansk's shoulder and netted it top corner off assists from Dallas Jackson and Michael Kostka.
The Wolf Pack edged the Falcons just 33 seconds into the overtime period when Lindberg one-timed a cross-slot pass from Mat Bodie for his second goal of the game. Chris Bourque nabbed a point for the secondary helper.
The Falcons continue their home stand, hosting the Portland Pirates on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. for Pink in the Rink presented by Noble Hospital.
