Senators Snap Bears' Lengthy Streak

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators scored three times in the second period and added a fourth unanswered goal in the third, wiping out an early deficit to take a 5-3 decision over the Hershey Bears on Friday night at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena and snap the Bears' 13-game point streak.
Casey Wellman began a first period completely owned by the Bears. Heading down the slot, Wellman deflected a pass from Philippe Cornet through the legs of Senators goaltender Scott Greenham at 3:16 for his 17th goal of the season.
Just 1:22 later, Tomas Kundratek joined a line rush led by Tim Kennedy and trailed in the slot. Kennedy backhanded a pass right onto Kundratek's tape for a one-timer over Greenham's glove and a 2-0 lead.
Both Dustin Gazley and Stan Galiev rang shots off of the posts in the opening period.
The Bears held that lead into the early part of the second frame, a period in which the Senators took control of the game. Cole Schneider capitalized on a turnover at the 2:50 mark, walking into the slot and backhanding a shot over a stretched-out Philipp Grubauer.
Carter Camper then tied the game when he got himself open inside the left circle and one-timed a feed from Schneider into the net at 13:24.
On what would turn out to be Binghamton's only power play of the night, Derek Grant parked himself at the top of Grubauer's crease to tip a shot from Alex Grant into the net at 15:17, giving Binghamton their first lead of the game.
Another defensive zone turnover down low in the third period gave the Senators their insurance goal. Alex Guptill capitalized on it, taking a feed from Ryan Dzingel and ripping a wrist shot past Grubauer at 10:48.
The Bears made things interesting when Cornet deflected a shot from Wellman over Greenham's arm at 16:25, pulling the visitors within a goal.
But Colin Greening ended the comeback attempt, launching a wrist shot under the leg of Kundratek and into the empty net at 19:34.
Grubauer saw his eight-game win streak snapped, as he made 28 saves but fell to 19-10-4. Greenham improved to 10-6-2 with the win, stopping 26 of 29 shots.
The loss was just the second in regulation for the Bears (30-14-5-3) in calendar year 2015, and snapped the club's six-game road winning streak.
The Bears come home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tomorrow, February 21 at 7:00 PM. The first 5,000 fans will receive a baseball cap courtesy of Capital BlueCross.
