St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps and Purolator collected 5,000 pounds of food during a pair of Purolator Shut Out Hunger Food Drives this season to support the Community Food Sharing Association.
The most recent event was held last Sunday prior to the IceCaps game versus the Worcester Sharks, while the first took place January 11th before the IceCaps contest against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. IceCaps fans were encouraged to participate by bringing non-perishable food items to the Purolator volunteers stationed at the Mile One Centre entrances. In return, fans had their names entered into a draw for a replica IceCaps jersey.
"I would like to personally thank our outstanding fans for once again demonstrating their generosity; and our partner Purolator for once again undertaking this important initiative," said IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams. "The Community Food Sharing Association performs an incredibly important service within our community, and the IceCaps are thankful for the opportunity to contribute to this cause every year."
Stephen Noseworthy, Purolator's District Manager, Newfoundland and Labrador, says his organization is happy to contribute to the success of this annual food drive.
"Our employees take pride in supporting our community and look forward to this initiative every year," said Mr. Noseworthy. "It's great to see that IceCaps fans do too."
"On behalf of those in need, we are very appreciative of the ongoing support from the IceCaps, their fans and Purolator," said Eg Walters, General Manager of the Community Food Sharing Association. "The Purolator Shutout Hunger campaign gives us our organization a big boost and it's something we've begun to count on every year."
The Community Food Sharing Association and its 56 member agencies provide support to nearly 30,000 clients in need of food. All proceeds from the food drives support the Community Food Sharing Association, which is fighting to end hunger by providing food and resources to those in need in throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
