March 15, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, March 15, 2006: The Hartford Wolf Pack invite all area school children to take part in mascot Sonar's 2nd annual "Edu-Skate" game. This educational school day game will be played on Wednesday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. as the Wolf Pack take on the Manchester Monarchs at the Hartford Civic Center. The game is a regularly scheduled AHL contest, developed in cooperation with educational partners, that allows students to take an exciting and unique field trip to a Wolf Pack hockey game. The goal is to use hockey as a teaching tool for kids to learn about math, geography, science, fitness and more.
"We had a tremendous response to our first 'Edu-Skate' and are excited to once again partner with our area schools and PTA's to provide a fun learning experience for local children," said Wolf Pack general manager/head coach Jim Schoenfeld. "It is rewarding to be able to give some children who may otherwise never have the opportunity to attend a professional hockey game a memorable and educational experience."
All students and teachers will receive a Wolf Pack pencil and "Edu-Skate" workbook, containing questions and activities that will be carried out during the game. The game presentation will be geared to the educational aspect of the day, and during stoppages in play, players will answer questions, pose problems and provide information to the students on the JumboTron. Sonar and his sidekick WTIC-FM's Damon Scott will also help students work through their exercises.
Student group tickets for Sonar's "Edu-Skate" game are available at a special price of $8.00 per ticket. Concessions will be open with lunch specials for fans as well. For more details, call the Wolf Pack ticket office at (860) 548-2000. Season ticket holders who cannot attend can either redeem their unused tickets for another game or donate them to a needy school.
