Peoria Rivermen News Release

Rochester, NY (March 15, 2006) - In their one and only visit to Blue Cross Arena this season, the Peoria Rivermen closed out their short, two-game 2005-06 regular season series with the Rochester Americans by outscoring the Americans 2-1 on Wednesday evening. The Rivermen got their two goals within the first seven minutes of the game from wingers Ryan Ramsay and Reed Low and then held on the rest of the way to claim a one-goal victory. Facing 18 shots on goal, Chris Beckford-Tseu backstopped Peoria to the win with 17 saves. Rivermen right wing Jon DiSalvatore was especially instrumental in his team's triumph, for he set up both of Peoria's goals on the evening.

Collecting the primary assist on both of Peoria's goals on Wednesday night, DiSalvatore assumed the overall team scoring lead. Entering the contest, DiSalvatore ranked as the leading active Rivermen point-getter with 56 points on 18 goals and 38 assists in 58 games played. He stood second, however, on Peoria's overall team scoring list behind right wing Mike Glumac, who notched 57 points (25 goals, 32 assists) in 49 outings before being recalled to the National Hockey League by the Rivermen parent-club St. Louis Blues most recently on February 22. With two assists on Wednesday evening in Rochester, though, DiSalvatore improved his season point total to 58 and moved ahead of Glumac by one point to become Peoria's overall leading scorer.

DiSalvatore helped the Rivermen jump out on top in this game after the Americans turned over the puck at center ice in the early going. Taking the puck back into the Rochester zone on the right wing, DiSalvatore sent the puck across to the left to Ramsay, who was racing down the slot. As he was being hooked down by a Rochester defender, Ramsay slapped the puck inside the right post to stake the Rivermen to a 1-0 lead just 4:34 into the contest on his 10th goal of the season.

Less than two minutes later, the Rivermen went up 2-0 on the Americans during a power play. On a wrist shot by DiSalvatore from the right face-off dot in the Rochester end, winger Reed Low, stationed at the top of the crease with his back to Americans goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier, tipped the puck between his legs and up into the top left corner of the Rochester goal. The nifty scoring play at the 6:18 mark of the first period improved Low's season goal total to three.

Overall, the Rivermen now stand at 38-22-2-4. On the road this season, the Peoria side has gone 17-11-2-2. The Americans, on the other hand, drop to 30-32-2-2 on the season and to 14-15-1-1 at home.

The Americans got their lone goal of this game in the second frame. Rushing into the Peoria zone down the left wing, Rochester forward Daniel Paille backhanded the puck over to his right to center Jiri Novotny, who then got off a quick shot from the left hash marks that hand-cuffed Rivermen goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu and powered its way on into the net. Novotny's 15th marker of 2005-06 pared Peoria's lead down to one goal at 2-1 at 2:48 of the second.

The Rivermen now head off to Manchester, New Hampshire, to confront the Manchester Monarchs on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. (CST).
