EVERETT, WA - Ethan Regnier buried a pair of goals and added an assist, Cole Fonstad notched a trio of assists and Dustin Wolf earned his second straight shutout in 18 saves to help the Everett Silvertips rout the Tri-City Americans in a 7-0 victory on Sunday, in WHL action at Toyota Center.
The Silvertips jumped out to a 2-0 start in WHL play while ripping off three goals each in the first and second periods and going 2-of-4 on the power play. The Tips have won five straight over Tri-City, outscoring them in the streak at 26-1.
NEXT GAME: The Silvertips host the Americans in a rematch on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m. (KRKO / WHL Live) in downtown Everett. Coverage opens on KRKO 30 minutes before puck drop with play-by-play voice Mike Benton handling coverage. Single day and full season watch packages are on sale at watch.chl.ca.
Olen Zellweger started the scoring just 49 seconds after the opening face-off when his point shot seared through traffic for a 1-0 lead. Hunter Campbell then deposited a rebound at the glove side post of Talyn Boyko at 5:43 for a 2-0 lead and Regnier followed up with his first goal of the season for a 3-0 bulge with 7:40 remaining, when he finished Jacob Wright's bump pass to the left circle.
Boyko's night was done after only 20 minutes, giving up three goals on 10 shots, and the Silvertips refused to relent on replacement Mason Dunsford. Fonstad fed Gage Goncalves at the right circle for a one-timer to make it 4-0 at 2:11and Ryan Hofer followed with his first career WHL goal at 8:50 when he capitalized on a broken play and snuck a backhander past Dunsford from the left circle.
Regnier wired a snap shot past Dunsford from the left circle to make it 6-0 at 9:48, and Ronan Seeley delivered the finishing touches with a point shot through traffic and a power play at 14:12 of the third period.
Wolf, whose biggest workload came on 10 shots in the second period, earned one of his tougher saves in the game on Mutala's bid from between the circles with five seconds left.
