Swift Current Broncos News Release

Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (1-5-0-0) rebounded perfectly after a rough game on Saturday, downing the Prince Albert Raiders (2-2-1-1) 5-2 Monday evening.

The Broncos opened the scoring on the power play. Owen Williams fed the puck down low to Raphael Pelletier who corralled it and beat Max Paddock on the glove side for his second goal of the season. Mathew Ward picked up the second assist on the goal.

The Raiders responded less than three minutes later when Ozzy Weisblatt hit the highlight reel. Coming down the left wing, Weisblatt toe dragged around the Broncos defenceman before lifting the puck over the glove of Reid Dyck to tie the game.

Swift Current took a lead into the intermission thanks to Caleb Wyrostok's first goal of the season. Bode Hagan threw a no-look pass from near the goal line across the crease with Wyrostok crashing the net. The puck tipped off the skate of Wyrostok and over the pad of Paddock to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead after one period.

Devin Aubin extended the Broncos lead early in the second period, taking a pass while coming off the bench and firing from the high slot, beating Paddock on the glove side. The goal was Aubin's first in the WHL, and was assisted by Ward and Michael Farren.

Halfway through the period the Broncos took a penalty and got caught in their own zone for the first 1:40 of the power play, but made a number of key blocks on Raider chances to escape the penalty unscathed.

In the final minute of the period, and just one second after a Broncos power play expired, Cole Nagy slid the puck across the crease for Carter Stebbings who tapped in his first WHL goal to give the Broncos a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes.

Justin Nachbaur cut into the Broncos lead just 1:05 into the third period, beating Dyck over the blocker off the rush.

Prince Albert ran into penalty trouble in the third period with four minor penalties in the final frame, and Stebbings connected on his second of the game to seal the win for the Broncos.

Dyck turned aside 28 of 30 for his first WHL win.

The Broncos return to action Wednesday night against the Saskatoon Blades.
