Warriors Cut by Blades at Subway WHL Hub

March 22, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

A two-goal second period by the Saskatoon Blades turned out to be costly for the Moose Jaw Warriors as they fell 3-1 Sunday night at the Subway WHL Hub in Regina.

Through the first period, both teams were able to create opportunities but it was not easy, as they both did a good job defensively to keep the puck outside the dots.

Scoreless to start the second, the tight hockey continued throughout the middle frame which limited the quality scoring chances.

With three minutes left in the period and the Warriors on the power play, Saskatoon's Tristen Robins created a turnover at the Blades blueline.  The San Jose Sharks 2020 2nd round pick raced up the ice and was able to convert on the shorthanded breakaway.

Saskatoon added to their lead under two minutes later when Evan Patrician was able to deflect a shot from the blueline.

Down a pair to start the third, the Warriors controlled the puck inside the Saskatoon zone approaching the four-minute mark.

Defenceman Cory King came down the right wall and carried the puck around the net to the left goal line.  He was able to find a seam to feed Jagger Firkus on the right side of the Saskatoon net where he tapped in his first of the season.

Moose Jaw had their moments for an equalizer but they were not able to convert, instead, the Blades added another goal from Evan Patrician at the midway mark and went on to hand the Warriors a 3-1 loss.

After a busy 6 games in 10-days schedule where the team went 4-2 to start the Subway WHL Hub, the Warriors have a quiet schedule this week.

They have Monday and Tuesday off, Wednesday afternoon they are back on the ice for their second game against Brandon, and then they wind down the work week with off days on Thursday and Friday.
