Dayton, Ohio - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to overcome an 8-6 deficit and defeat the Dayton Dragons 9-8 in the opener to a six-game series on Tuesday night.

A crowd of 7,683 was in attendance at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District.

The game featured plenty of offense as the teams combined for 30 hits, 13 walks, and 17 runs. The contest lasted three hours, 28 minutes, making it the longest nine-inning game of the season for the Dragons.

The game featured several lead changes as the Dragons jumped in front 3-0 before Wisconsin scored five runs in the fourth inning to go ahead 5-3. The Dragons batted back and took a 6-5 lead in the fifth, only to see Wisconsin score in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.

In the bottom of the sixth, Dayton broke the tie when Austin Hendrick lined a single off the right field fence to drive in Austin Callahan from second base and move Edwin Arroyo to third. Mat Nelson followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in Arroyo and give the Dragons an 8-6 lead.

Dayton held the two-run lead until the ninth. Reliever Owen Holt, who had allowed only one earned run in his last 10 appearances, struck out the first batter to begin the inning. But the next four Wisconsin batters collected hits including a home run, two doubles, and a single to produce three runs and give the Timber Rattlers a 9-8 lead.

The Dragons threatened in the bottom of the ninth, putting runners at first and second with two outs, but Austin Callahan grounded out to second base to end the game.

Hendrick led the Dragons 12-hit attack with a single, double, and three runs batted in. Arroyo had two hits, two walks, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Jay Allen II had three hits and scored two runs. Cade Hunter, in his first game with the Dragons, had two hits including a double. The Dragons stole five bases in the game.

Despite the loss, the Dragons remained three games behind first place Fort Wayne in the East Division of the Midwest League.
