PELICANS CRUISE TO WIN IN OPENER The Dash struck with a first-inning run, but Myrtle Beach responded with eight unanswered tallies in its 8-1 win in Tuesday's opener inside TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans plated four runs in the first two innings against Dash starter Jefferson Olacio, who had not given up an earned run in his first three starts of 2014. All eight RBIs came from Birds hitting second through fifth, with Jorge Alfaro's three-RBI effort leading the way for the first-place Pelicans.

TWO HUGE LOSSES The White Sox announced four important transactions in advance of Wednesday's middle match. The Dash have lost both shortstop Tim Anderson and right-hander Frank Montas to the seven-day disabled list. Anderson has a fractured right wrist thanks to a hit by pitch late in the first half. He currently sits eighth in the Carolina League with a .297 average to go along with six homers, 31 RBIs, 48 runs and 10 stolen bases. Montas suffered a right knee injury that could cost him the rest of the season. His 1.60 earned run average in 10 starts would be the second-best mark in the CL if he qualified. Due to this injury, Montas will not participate in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game next weekend.

TWO BIG GAINS Despite these difficult subtractions, the Dash regained right-hander Tyler Danish from the disabled list and added talented shortstop Cleuluis Rondon from Low-A Kannapolis. Danish, who will start Wednesday night, is 1-1 with a 5.68 ERA in six High-A starts, none of which have come against Myrtle Beach. Rondon hit .233 with 16 RBIs and 35 runs scored in 77 games as the Intimidators' shortstop.

FLYING OVER The Dash have dropped six of their first seven games to Myrtle Beach in 2014. Winston-Salem is hitting just .182 with 14 runs scored. Despite these offensive struggles, five of the first seven games have been decided by three runs or less.

11TH HEAVEN Winston-Salem infielder Joey DeMichele has hit safely in 11 straight games. He extended his season-long hitting streak with a double in the first inning on Tuesday. During this spurt, the former Arizona State star is hitting .326 (14-for-43) with six RBIs and four runs scored. DeMichele has logged the sixth double-digit hit streak by a Dash hitter this season, and he is two shy of Justin Jirschele's 13-game surge for the longest by a Winston batter this season. After ending May with an overall average of .236, DeMichele has pushed his mark 31 points by hitting .326 in his last 26 efforts.

DIFFERENT MONTH, DIFFERENT RESULTS Winston-Salem did not parlay its June successes into the first day of July. The Dash not only paced the Carolina League with a .297 average last month, but their 3.69 ERA also led the way. Thus, Winston turned in its best month of the season (15-12) and finished one win shy of the CL leader in June (Potomac). The Dash are third in the league in overall average (.264) and ERA (3.80), which has only bought the Dash the sixth-best record in the eight-team loop.

LEFT HANGING Winston-Salem has not fared well against left-handed starters thus far this season. The club is 8-18 when a southpaw starts for its opponent. On the road, Winston has dropped 11 of its 13 games against a lefty. The Dash hit .224 against southpaws versus a .279 mark against right-handers. Myrtle Beach is scheduled to throw a lefty both Wednesday and Thursday.

DASH DOTS Outfielder Courtney Hawkins remains atop the CL in RBIs (59), while his 13 homers are tied for second...Jason Coats drove home his 53rd run on Tuesday, which places him fourth...Coats also has 13 home runs this season...Thursday's series finale will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network...Myrtle Beach is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch due to Arthur.
