Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys used a three-run third and five innings of shutout baseball from Brady Wager to claim a 3-0 win in a rain-shortened five inning game on Tuesday night at Harry Grove Stadium. In the bottom of the fifth, the rains started to intensify prompting the tarp to be put on the field. It would be removed after a 54 minute delay, but following a conference between both umpires and both managers, the field was deemed unplayable.
Wager worked around a pair of runners on base in the second, and a man in scoring position one frame later, before the Keys put three runs on the board. Facing Joe Gunkel, Jason Esposito and Wynston Sawyer stroked back-to-back singles. Glynn Davis brought Esposito home with a single down the leftfield line, while a fourth base knock by Mike Yastrzemski plated Sawyer. On the single, the Keys would get one additional run, as the relay toss by rightfielder Aneury Tavarez went into the third base dugout.
In the fifth, Wager (3-7) used two nice plays by Tucker Nathans at second base to keep the Red Sox off the board as the rains began to fall. Wager was credited with his first win since April 17, and his first complete-game shutout since August 3, 2013 at Carolina, when he blanked the Mudcats through nine innings. Over the weather-shortened five stanzas, the righty scattered six hits and struck out one.
The Frederick Keys go for a series-win on Wednesday night, when Parker Bridwell (4-6, 4.00) takes the mound for the orange and black. He will be opposed by Sox lefty Cody Kukuk (1-6, 8.33). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. from the Grove, and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source.. For ticket information, fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com. The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Harry Grove Stadium.
