The Series vs Lynchburg -- The Mudcats host the Hillcats at Five County Stadium for the second time this year after dropping 2-of-3 May 12-14. Carolina leads the all-time series with the Hillcats 25-22, but the Hillcats hold the advantage at Five County Stadium, winning 13 of 24 meetings.

Last Time Out -- The Carolina Mudcats scored an 8-3 victory over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Tuesday night at Five County Stadium. All eight runs crossed with two outs. Alex Monsalve drove in a season-best four runners. Shawn Morimando earned the win by limiting the Hillcats to a run on three hits over five innings. All nine batters in the lineup reach for the Mudcats.

Tonight's Pitching Probables -- The middle game of the set features another marquee match-up with Carolina's Ryan Merritt and Lynchburg's Cody Scarpetta. Merritt enters Wednesday tied with teammate Shawn Morimando for the most wins (8) in the CL and his 1.58 ERA is tops in the league. Merritt went 2-0 across four starts in June with an impressive 1.29 ERA across 28 innings pitched. Merritt has yielded no more than three runs in any start this year. He's pitched seven innings or more seven times in 14 starts. Scarpetta dealt seven hitless innings against Wilmington in his last start on June 27. The right-hander was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers and advanced to Double-A Huntsville before undergoing Tommy John Surgery in 2012. He signed a free agent with the Braves this year and is 2-1 in three starts with a 1.89 ERA for the Hillcats.

"Money"mando -- Shawn Morimando continued his recent dominance of Carolina League lineups on Tuesday. The southpaw has not lost a start since May 8. Morimando dealt seven straight quality starts from May 18-June 26. Counting a spot start with Double-A Akron, Morimando has a 1.69 ERA over his last nine outings and is 5-0. For the year, he has dropped his ERA from 4.19 to 2.93, which is sixth best on the circuit.

Take a Stroll -- The Mudcats earned seven walks in their win over the Hillcats and scored four runs off those. Logan Vick reached base three times, twice on walks, and scored all three times. On the year, the Mudcats have earned 307 walks, the most in the CL. Carolina has had three players earn at least four bases on balls in a game this year. That's helped the club amass a .343 on-base percentage, second on the circuit.

Cuban Crusher -- Yandy Diaz extended his season-long hitting streak to 10 games on Tuesday evening with a single in the third inning. During his streak, Diaz is hitting .378 (14x37) with nine RBI and seven runs scored. Through 22 games in his first professional season, Diaz owns a .305 batting average. He has 12 walks to 14 strike- outs and a .394 OBP.

Quality Starts -- Carolina starters own 37 quality starts in 80 games (46%). The Mudcats are 22-15 when a start- er pitches a quality outing. Shawn Morimando and Ryan Merritt lead the rotation with 10 quality starts apiece. Merritt has dealt a quality start in an incredible 71% of his appearances (10/14). The Mudcats are 9-1 when Mer- ritt deals a quality start.

Muddy's Tales -- The Mudcats will celebrate America's birthday this Fourth of July Weekend with fireworks fol- lowing the games on July 3, 4 and 5. The series with the Salem Red Sox wraps up with World Cup Day and Kids Run the Bases, presented by Amerigas, on Sunday, July 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling (919) 269-2287 or by visiting carolinamudcats.com.
