Winston-Salem Dash News Release
ROME, GA - Despite a ninth inning rally, the Winston-Salem Dash bounced back in extra innings to down the Rome Braves, 5-4, Tuesday night at AdventHealth Stadium.
Winston-Salem (47-51) gave the ball to southpaw Tyler Schweitzer trying to string together back-to-back quality starts. In the first two innings, the 2022 5th round pick of the White Sox set down Rome (46-57) in order quickly.
In the third, the Braves put runners on, but Schweitzer danced out of trouble getting a fly out from Ignacio Alvarez keeping the game scoreless. Braves' starter Ian Mejia was sailing through four innings until the fifth, when Winston-Salem broke the deadlock.
In the top of the fifth, Wes Kath doubled to lead off the frame and the next two batters walked loading the bases for Brooks Baldwin in his Dash debut. The White Sox 2022 12th round pick delivered in his first game. Baldwin singled home Kath making it 1-0, but Winston-Salem wasn't done there. Michael Turner singled home two more runs giving the Dash a 3-0 lead.
Schweitzer continued to stifle the Braves lineup, working a shutdown inning in the fifth and setting down Rome in order in the sixth inning. The lefty's night came to an end after the sixth, departing with a 3-0 lead. Kole Ramage entered in the seventh and worked two scoreless innings, punching out three, keeping the lead intact, 3-0.
In the ninth, Eric Adler entered looking for the save. Rome got to the right hander, tying the game on a double with two outs, sending the two sides to extra innings.
With the automatic runner starting on second base, DJ Gladney wasted no time putting the Dash back on top. The Chicago native singled home Baldwin making it, 4-3, and Winston-Salem wanted insurance. The Dash loaded the bases again, and Bryce Willits was hit bringing home another run, taking a 5-3 advantage.
Adler returned for the 10th and allowed the automatic runner to score, but stranded the tying and go-ahead runs on base, closing out the 5-4 win.
Winston-Salem saw multi-hit performances from Loidel Chapelli, Turner and Willits in the victory. Adler (2-0) picked up the win while Rob Griswold (1-3) was tabbed with the loss.
The Dash and Braves meet for game two on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. from AdventHealth Stadium.
