Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Brooklyn Cyclones halted a three game skid on Tuesday night at Maimonides Park, defeating the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, 3-2. LHP Joey Lucchesi made a minor-league rehabbing outing with Brooklyn, tossing 3.1 innings, while allowing one run and striking out five. All three runs for Brooklyn came via the long ball, as both RF Stanley Consuegra and C Drake Osborn left the ballpark.
RHP Robert Colina was sublime in relief for Brooklyn. The Punto Fijo, VZ native tossed the final 5.1 innings, en route to picking up his third victory of the year. Colina surrendered just two hits, and struck out six.
Aberdeen opened up the scoring in the fourth inning. With two outs and a man on first base, Brooklyn pitching issued four straight walks. The final two both came with the bases loaded, allowing Aberdeen to score the game's first two runs. LF Jacob Teter came up with the bases loaded and drew a free pass, followed by 3B Anthony Servideo doing the same exact thing.
Brooklyn's response came quickly, though. After CF Alex Ramírez singled earlier in the frame, Consuegra launched a game-tying two run shot to right. The long ball was the outfielder's team-leading 14th home run of the season.
One frame later, Osborn rocketed his 8th home run of the season to put Brooklyn in front by one, a lead they would never relinquish.
Aberdeen put the tying run on base in the ninth inning, but Colina proceeded to slam the door when 2B D'Andre Smith made a diving catch to end the game. With Brooklyn's win, Aberdeen has now dropped its 12th straight game.
Brooklyn and Aberdeen return to action Wednesday afternoon on Coney Island. RHP Jordany Ventura (2-0, 3.20) is expected to toe the slab for Brooklyn, where he'll oppose RHP Trace Bright (1-4, 4.48). First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
