Wings Hold On, Take Season Series from Knights

Rochester Red Wings News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - Reynaldo Rodriguez's solo home run in the seventh inning proved to be the difference as the Rochester Red Wings held on to beat the Charlotte Knights 6-5 Sunday night at BB&T Ballpark.
The solo shot gave the Red Wings (59-56) a 6-3 lead but the Knights (61-55) scored a run in the bottom half of the seventh and another in the eighth to pull within a run. Xavier Avery also homered for the Wings, who took two of three games from Charlotte in this series and four of six this season.
Byron Buxton finished 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a walk in the win. He's 5-for-12 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in three rehab games since joining Rochester on Friday.
Avery's home run gave the Red Wings an early 1-0 lead in the second inning against Hector Noesi (1-2). Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded in the third to put the Wings in front 2-0 but left the bases. The Knights answered with a two-out, two-run single by Dayan Viciedo in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Viciedo would be thrown out trying to advance to second as the throw home was cut off.
Rochester followed with a crooked number of its own in the fourth as Argenis Diaz blooped a single to left scoring Avery from third base as the Red Wings regained the lead. Buxton then snuck a ground ball just inside the third base bag for an RBI double to give the Wings a 4-2 lead. James Beresford drove in another run with a groundout and Rochester led 5-2.
Jason Coats brought the Knights closer with an RBI double in the fifth against Michael Bowden (1-1) to cut the lead to 5-3. Rodriguez then homered in the seventh to give the Red Wings a 6-3 advantage.
Bowden went out to start the seventh and hit the first batter of the inning before being relieved by Alex Meyer, who walked the first two batters he faced to load the bases. With the tying run on base, Rob Brantly hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run but Meyer induced back-to-back pop ups to end the threat.
Bowden was charged with four runs on eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts in 6.0+ innings. Noesi allowed six runs, five earned, over 7.0 innings.
Matt Davidson homered off Mark Hamburger in the eighth to pull Charlotte within 6-5. The run allowed by Hamburger was the first in his last 12 appearances spanning 14.0 innings. The long ball was only the second he's allowed this season, joining April 18 at Pawtucket.
The Knights put the tying run on base with two outs in the ninth but Michael Tonkin secured his 11th save and second in as many days to lock down the victory.
Avery and Diaz finished with two hits and two runs scored apiece while Rodriguez drove in two runs for the Wings.
