Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) Syracuse Chiefs' starter A.J. Cole threw seven strong innings and led the visitors to a 3-1 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Sunday at McCoy Stadium. The PawSox took an early lead on Jonathan Roof's home run but did not get a hit the rest of the way. The win was the Chiefs' seventh in as many days against Pawtucket.
The Sox' starter Zeke Spruill gave Pawtucket three strong innings to begin his outing and keep the game scoreless until Roof led off the bottom of the third with a blast to left field. Thereafter, Cole allowed only one baserunner - a two-out walk of Jemile Weeks in the fourth - and earned his second win over the PawSox in five days.
The Chiefs (50-67) tied the game with a one-out rally in the fourth. Matt Skole doubled and scored when Caleb Ramsey singled.
Syracuse took the lead for good in the fifth when Matt den Dekker doubled to score Josh Johnson, who had singled with one out. They tacked on their third and final run on a Steve Lerud double that plated Mario Lisson in the sixth.
Pat Light pitched a pair of scoreless innings for Pawtucket (44-71) after Spruill was lifted. Spruill (4-9) allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out five.
The Chiefs retired the Sox in order in each of the last five innings to wrap up the win.
