Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Rochester Red Wings fell to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 6-4, in walk off fashion Saturday evening in Allentown, PA. RF Nomar Mazara hit a two-run single in the 9th inning tying the game allowing the Wings to comeback, until former Red Wing John Hicks followed with a two-run homer, bringing the IronPigs to a walk-off win.
Both teams stayed off the board until the IronPigs' SS Scott Kingery launched a two-run homer in the 2nd inning, driving in LF Simon Muzzioti. An RBI sac-fly from Weston Wilson gave Lehigh a 3-0 lead after the third.
Rochester plated their first run in the 4th inning from a LF Jake Noll double to center field, bringing RF Nomar Mazara home to score the Wings' first run of the game. Rochester's second run came in the 6th inning off a C Drew Millas RBI single, scoring Mazara again.
Both teams remained scoreless through the seventh until Lehigh Valley came out in the eight to score a run after former Red Wing CF Jake Cave crossed the plate thanks to an RBI sacrifice fly from LF Cal Stevenson, bringing the IronPigs to a 4-2 lead over Rochester going into the 9th inning.
The Wings, for the second time in as many days, stormed back to tie the game with a two-out two-run single from RF Nomar Mazara with bases loaded, driving in 2B Jeter Downs and 3B Jake Alu, after Downs and DH Franmil Reyes reach on walks and Alu on a single.
The IronPigs managed to fire back with a walk-off two-run home run from another former Red Wing in 1B John Hicks. The two-run shot sealed the deal for Lehigh Valley who now tied the series at two apiece.
LHP Anthony Banda (0-0, 6.23) worked 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out five IronPigs batters in his fifth start with Rochester. RHP Odalvi Javier, RHP Andres Machado, and RHP Tyler Danish worked the remaining innings in relief, allowing a combined three earned and striking out two.
RF Nomar Mazara earned Diamond Pro Player of the Game Saturday night after tying the game with a two-run single. Mazara went 3-for-4 at the plate, collecting a pair of runs, a triple, and a pair of RBI. Tonight's triple marks his first of the season with Rochester.
The Wings take the field again tomorrow night in Allentown as RHP Wily Peralta takes the mound for Rochester. The IronPigs will send RHP Noah Skirrow to the mound, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
